Assessing Rabies Vaccine Protection against a Novel Lyssavirus, Kotalahti Bat Lyssavirus

چکیده
Rabies is a fatal encephalitis caused by an important group of viruses within the Lyssavirus genus. The prototype virus, rabies still most commonly reported lyssavirus and causes approximately 59,000 human fatalities annually. animal burden other species undefined. original reports for novel lyssavirus, Kotalahti bat (KBLV), were based on detection viral RNA alone. In this report we describe successful generation live recombinant cSN-KBLV; where full-length genome clone RABV vaccine strain, SAD-B19, was constructed with glycoprotein KBLV. Subsequent in vitro characterisation cSN-KBLV described here. addition, ability to confer protective immunity vivo following challenge virus assessed. Naïve or vaccinated mice infected intracerebrally dose 100 focus-forming units/30 µL all naïve 8% (n = 1/12) succumbed challenge, whilst 92% 11/12) survived end experiment. This provides strong evidence cross-neutralisation cross-protection using purified Vero cell vaccine.

Novel Lyssavirus in Bat, Spain
A new tentative lyssavirus, Lleida bat lyssavirus, was found in a bent-winged bat (Miniopterus schreibersii) in Spain. It does not belong to phylogroups I or II, and it seems to be more closely related to the West Causasian bat virus, and especially to the Ikoma lyssavirus.
متن کاملBat lyssavirus infections.
Bats, which represent approximately 24% of all known mammalian species, frequently act as vectors of lyssaviruses. In particular, insectivorous bats play an important role in the epidemiology of rabies and some rabies-like viruses, while the haematophagous vampire bats are the major wildlife vector for rabies in Latin America. In contrast, the role of fruit bats (flying foxes) in the epidemiolo...
متن کاملNovel Lyssavirus in Natterer’s Bat, Germany
A virus isolated from a Natterer's bat (Myotis nattererii) in Germany was differentiated from other lyssaviruses on the basis of the reaction pattern of a panel of monoclonal antibodies. Phylogenetic analysis supported the assumption that the isolated virus, Bokeloh bat lyssavirus, may represent a new member of the genus Lyssavirus.

BACKGROUND Rabies is preventable by pre- and/or post-exposure prophylaxis consisting of series of rabies vaccinations and in some cases the use of immunoglobulins. The success of vaccination can be estimated either by measuring virus neutralising antibodies or by challenge experiment. Vaccines based on rabies virus offer cross-protection against other lyssaviruses closely related to rabies viru...
متن کاملAustralian bat lyssavirus infection in two horses.
In May 2013, the first cases of Australian bat lyssavirus infections in domestic animals were identified in Australia. Two horses (filly-H1 and gelding-H2) were infected with the Yellow-bellied sheathtail bat (YBST) variant of Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV). The horses presented with neurological signs, pyrexia and progressing ataxia. Intra-cytoplasmic inclusion bodies (Negri bodies) were det...
